    Simple help ruler?

    :?:  :?:

It take some times little work to found center-point of image to make it balance so i think that perhaps it is easy to make simpple ruler of that problem. Cad-program has grids but i dont like it because it is too technical at this art-paint? But it help lot if can make simpple ruler, checkpoint or cross or how to say it english? I put image to see what i mean. Need only three selection, ruler on-off, ruler center, and ruler move.

     :?:

I think this is a good suggestion, but I do want it to be precise. When doing successful paintings you need a good composition and having compositionoverlays, in the form of 1pixel lines, would very beneficial, atleast for me.

As I imagine them you would want to chose from several of the known and accepted ways like threequater composition, center and off compositions etc. The composition lines would be computed from the canvas size and placed accordingly.

Another thing that would be nice would be if the compositionlines wouldnt scale if you were zoomed in, but would stay the same thickness no matter what zoomlevel you are using.

And the lines should not really be movable only toggle on/off

Good ideas Peter. Work better and is more simple also. And when compositionlines is always logged same place on the canvas then cant happend mistake by accidental.

And centerpoint is that crosspoint or....hmm...get new idea...perhaps that line can be example doublecolor..i make image of that idea.

You could make it in another program like photoshop or gimp (free) and use it in Artrage. That way you don't have to wait for an update.

Load the crosshairs as a tracing image. The tracing image can be deleted anytime.

    Why wait for an update!

Make your lines any way you want.

My screen grab is simply two lines. In photoshop, with rulers visible, I make two guides and used the straight line feature (holding down command in mac, control in PC and clicking two points - the straight line is drawn between the points.)

You can later delete the tracing image.

sure, but i want (would like to have) it in artrage!

Doing it in another layer get the work done, but it means I have to have another layer in my document, even if I did the composition guides within AR (as I usually do) and I generally want to keep the amount of layers down to a minimum... And the thing I suggsted was abit more advanced than putting guidelines on my painting. I would like to see presets for several different composition layouts.

Besides this, it's just more sexy to have it within the program as a feature.

    Hi PV,

    Thinking about your post.

I use a transfer of a sheet of squared paper when I need precise layout.

It would be mega cool if Artrage had a specialised layer with various switchable templates on it.

Click for Squares, click for Infinite Perspective, click for Room Perspective, click for Story Board. Plus click for the imported grid/template of your choice.

Mostly I just draw all that stuff, but it would really help people doing architectural pictures.

Ruler at in the artage program is best, i also think.

I test this dak idea but not lines i make one 100*100pixel square.

When load this square trace image and use
    -edit trace image
    -tile image to fill
then you have chessboard just canvas size.

    And when use
    -rescale the painting
then this 100*100 pixel square chessboard is still on center and can use.

And can same time see what is the pixel size of painting object, because one square is 50*50 pixel and can use measuring ruler.

I put this 100*100 to see.

Of cource best is that it is on the artrage and can open on/off, but mean while it work through trace-process.

    -------------
Easy way make this 4-square is next steps.

Remember use edit paper setting opacity 0.

    1. Open new painting. 50*50 pixel size.
    2. Color it black(or color what want use).
    3. Export layer 50.png
    4. Rescale painting 100*100.
    5. Clear layer.
    6. Load trace image that 50.png
    7. Edit, move and convert that 50.png two times on painting.
    8. Export layer 100.png.
Now you have one 100*100pixel size square 100.png and can use by using through trace operation.

Hmm. Of cource can make one ready basic file where is this square-ruler ready always on one layer and when start to paint new paintings open and use it first.

I start to testing this square thing and made one example of image. I use many layers also. Red and yellow spot is bottom layer, yellow is paper color and red is painted over it. Colors comes through higher layer eraser holes where was this green square-thing.
