    Proposal: An ArtRage Wiki

What do people think about setting up an official (or unofficial) ArtRage Wiki? I see a lot of excellent user-posted resources on these forums and on various websites (such as techniques, plugins, videos, palettes), but no good organization of them. And so useful information tends to get pushed down and is harder to find than it should be.

Wikis are a great way for a community to organize information for newcomers and for themselves, and require few resources from the "parent company" for their upkeep. Here are some examples of wikis from other communities that I'm part of:

http://pandorawiki.org/Main_Page - an upcoming electronic handheld
    http://www.shikadi.net/keenwiki/Main_Page - a retro computer game
    http://www.sitasingstheblues.com/wik...itle=Main_Page - a film

Using the latest version of MediaWiki would be best, since this is what Wikipedia uses, and many people have at least some experience with it.

The ideal option would be for AmbientDesign to host the wiki on their own server. However, among free wiki hosts (with Google ads on the sides), I've had very good experience with http://editthis.info/wiki/ - it uses the latest MediaWiki version and allows many admin controls.

What is the advantage of a wiki over these forums ??

Unlike a forum or a website, a wiki can have a list of plugins (or techniques, or videos, or tutorials, etc.) that does NOT depend on one person being willing to always update it (like this list of tutorials, for example). Different people will update the list whenever something new comes up, so the list is more likely to be comprehensive and up to date.

Haha.. thanks for the link to Commander Keen ... that took me back

Would run this idea by the RageTeam as i'm not sure about google adsense popping up their competitors on a remote wiki or the money from those ads going to an outside host.

There's a new fan-made Keen game that I thought was as good as one of the originals. Check it out.

Yes, that's why I thought it would probably be better for them to host it themselves. Will someone from the staff see this topic eventually, or should I try contacting them another way? (note: I don't know how to set up a wiki on the server side - my only experience is with using them)
