AR3.0.5 Merge Layers with Texture Bug

It is common for AR to alter texture, sometime considerably when merging layers with texture, especially those with bump paint in them. Attached is one example. Is there a solution to this other than to not merge the layers? Is it a bug or should this be considered expected behavior??? See example.

It looks as though the sum of the bump on each layer is exceeding the total amount of bump a layer can support.
So when you combine the layers it is overflowing.

Thanks Andy. A thought: While some files will alter some texture a bit when exporting, most of the time the fidelity is very high. For example, the file here combines the layers without any problem to produce the exported PNG - the fidelity appears near 100%. Liking to understand the mechanics of things, what's different when the layers merge to create the PNG (for example) file vs. the merging that takes place within AR?

When you create a PNG the bump information is rendered with the paint to produce a flat 2D bitmap with no bump information (it just looks like it).
When you merge layers the bump information is preserved so you can still smear the deep paint around.

Thanks Dave. Clear as a bell. It's obvious now that you say it.
