    A Yemeni Salesman

I grew up in Yemen. (long story made short) Here is my rough sketch, I hope to turn it into a painting over the next few days. As always, critiques welcome!

This is a great initial sketch! I can see a lot of potential for a very fine character study. Keep at it!
The only problem with humor is that no one takes it seriously.

heh. Update. Mostly just a fast color dump. All thick oils. This is taking longer than ordinary.

whew. I'm doing this as a painting for my mother in payment for AR3 in AR3. For some reason, this painting is just dragging on. I'm just so dissatisfied with random things here and there that I keep wanting to ditch it, but then I try something new and I'll like the new thing... tedious and difficult, and not much to show for it after all these weeks...

Ah well. Critiques are greatly appreciated! I'd love to hear some pointers on wrinkles especially. No idea how to do them at all.

here's my primary reference picture, I've moved things around compositionally for various reasons... I'm not looking at the wrinkles quite right or something...

I can see why you chose this one. He is a fascinating looking character.

So at this point, any help with the hand would be appreciated. Or anything else that seems off.

Gray, for me it's a good start. Maybe hands are too small and need some resizing. They look like child hands. And the light is too smoothed IMHO. Maybe more strong contrast between light and shadow will give more the "out on sun" effect.

I've enlarged the hand, added to the wrinkles, fiddled with the clothes and the eyes... I'm about done I think. Thanks all for your help and encouragement!
