    Is AR3 multithreaded?

Apologies if this question has already been asked but is AR3 multithreaded? Would buying a computer with multiple CPUs be advantageous for AR3?

ArtRage is not yet very multi-threaded. (There are some minor threads running, but you're probably really asking about the main painting loop)

It's something we are looking into for an update release when we re-work the layer and memory handling for large document formats.

Multiple CPUs wont really speed up ArtRage (just yet) except in that they will allow other applications and processes to run without stealing CPU cycles from ArtRage.

Thanks very much. I guess my computer is okay for now. I'll wait until AR3 is multithreaded before upgrading.

you could be using SIMD instructions too if you are not doing this already.
About multi-threading, I don't know how the "painting loop" is architectured, but if you can, at some point the processing pipeline, divide drawing areas into independent parts, assigning one thread to each part (up to the detected number of CPUs) should greatly improve perfs.

multi-threaded for quad core and core 2 duo CPUs

Would this be in 3.x or not until 4.0?

We're not sure when it will be in at this point but there are no specific plans to delay it to a 4.x release. I'd expect it to be in a 3.x but at this point I can't say for sure.
