You and I were posting at the same time... so sad.

That's three this week. Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and now Michael Jackson. Wow... in threes.

    Dear irishrose,
As soon as I posted the sad news about Michael Jackson I also noticed
yours. We had to have been typing at exactly the same time. Like you,
I would like to fondly remember him for the musical icon that he was.
    May he rest in peace.

I'm old enough to remember his appearances on the Andy Williams Show where The Jackson Five were regulars. It was kind of a running joke that he would always look straight into the camera.
Skipping way ahead, he was obviously a very troubled soul over the last 20 or more years. I was never a fan but I never denied that he was extremely talented.

Mair, Robert... I totally agree about his talent. I WAS a fan, not a fanATIC though.. I knew the final years for him have been totally tumultuous, with trials, anorexia, drug abuse. I really didn't think this tour of his would go anywhere... and he often said he didn't think he'd live this long. I think he knew that his health was always an issue.

    Robert,
I vividly recall watching reruns of the Jackson Five in concert and was
always taken with the unbounded talent these brothers had and how
adorable Michael was as a child. As his star continued to rise, it seemed
that the more fame this gifted wonder received the more he began to
loose site of himself and the world around him. His flame burned brightly
then went dark all too soon, growing dimmer in his prime and now forever
but for those who will recall his memory and artistic contributions, both
    good and bad.

    Dear irishrose,
You and Robert have such kind hearts. You both clearly see the agony
and the ecstacy of it all. I also always harbored mixed feelings about
this talented but troubled artist. Watching him slowly dissolve was
    unsettling.

Sorry to hear the sad news! His contribution to music/dance would ever live!

Mair, thank you. I just have realized after watching all the pot shots taken at him over the years that he must have had a really rough childhood to have such behavioural problems as he did. I remember there was a problem with abuse by his father, his wanting to change his looks, rumors of health issues beyond his control, the drug use due to some things that caused him pain as well as anti depressants, etc. I really think the key to this is what the lawyer for the family says is an abuse of medication and that there were doctors that enabled his taking this medication which should have been totally monitored. There is something coming out soon by the LA Coroner's office.. and they are searching for the doc in question that was there at the time of Michael's cardiac arrest... apparently nobody does CPR on a soft surface, they put them on a hard surface, like the floor. Being someone trained in CPR, I knew that immediately. Why did a DOCTOR not do that? Something is just not right and if it is the fault of a doctor or doctorS, then someone is going to pay for this tremendous loss. I hear that MJ wrote an autobiography. I wonder if that has been published. Still, may he rest in peace. It's becoming a media circus already.

    wenkat,
When Michael Jackson first debuted his "Moon Walk" step in the song,
"Billy Jean", I just had to learn how to do it. I did .... but I will only
move into the funky step if I am bribed to do it and a "get down" song
is playing ... really loud! Below is a montage of dance steps that M.J.
is noted for and as you indicated... what a performer he was.
