Open/import status bars for large files?

    Howdy guys.

I'm working on a print image for a client at 300dpi. I noticed when I re-opened the so-far 60MB file this morning, it took about a minute or so for the file to open ... in the meantime, it was hard to tell if ArtRage had hung or failed or whatnot.

I know you guys are working on memory optimization and efficiency and such ... In the meantime (or in the long term) would it be difficult to put a process status bar (much like the current 'save' bar) when opening or importing very large files? I don't know the inner workings of what the system's doing at that point, so I don't know how easy or doable that is.

Of course, this isn't a deal-breaking suggestion or anything. Just a useful thought.

Thanks for all the hard work, guys ... looking forward to future versions as always

    Seconded, entirely, including the politeness.

Not just with Artrage, it's just a functional addition for as a user to have an idea of what's going on for anything that you have to wait for on the computer.

    Thanks.

What sort of document were you opening, Cooner?

It was just a .ptg file, but a very big one. It had started as an imported Photoshop document (scanned line art with transparent layers under it), but once I started coloring with ArtRage tools I saved it as an ArtRage .ptg file to continue work.

I just did a little test. I notice that creating a new document and re-importing the original (20MB) Photoshop file, I get a "Working..." notice, but no visual feedback whether the software is progressing or not until the import is finished.

In contrast, when I closed that file and then double-clicked on the newer .ptg file (56MB), a blank ArtRage window comes up with the filename on the top window bar, but then there's nothing, no feedback and no responsiveness, for about forty seconds or so until the full image finally comes up inside the window.

Hope this explains a bit better what I'm talking about ... Oh, by the way, dual-1.25Ghz G4 running Mac OS X 10.4.7.

    Thanks again!

    Okay, great thanks.
I'll get a bug added to the bug database about that.
A progress bar shows up if you open a .ptg file from the file menu, but appears to be lacking if you double-click a .ptg file to open.
