I don't know myself yet! I usually just imply details, but with this piece it seems to want lots more than that...

Thank you, and thanks Dali for the encouragement!

    Aaaaaarrggggggggh

I am stupid, It's official. Please help!

I managed to save my work as a psd rather than a ptg and have the canvas texture "applied" to all layers.... we all know how hard that is to blend further work into.....

from here I'm working on new layers with the original CANVAS but feel constrained that I wont be able to "merge down" and blend with the palette knife without getting big ugly marks in the bump channel....

anyway, progress is slow and I'm in a love hate relationship with this piece now...

I haven't done the hands yet but here's an updated detail.

If you know how to remove the bump effect using artrage or an external package please let me know!

    uhh sound not nice...

well i didn't know if i understand what you mean:

There are some tricks (wich you may already know):
-pressing F5 disables the 3d rendering of artrage (no bump, light, only color)
But you may have troubles because of the wetness..
Hmm if you import your image as a layer it should be have no bump...maybe you can try that...

Waiting for the hands befor i say something Cool work yet...nice powerful colors

    Uffffff! Sorry about your problem.

I actually lost a .ptg file some time ago after living with it for many hours. Fortunately, I had a WIP version and many encouraged me to do it again. I did it, and it turned out quite well. (Still, its hard going back and trying to do the same thing twice. )
The only problem with humor is that no one takes it seriously.

    Thanks.... Must do hands!...

the trouble is Artrage doesn't know that the canvas texture in my image is canvas any more..... It's "baked" in now a if I painted it....If i could isolate the "bumpmapped lighting" seperate from the colours maybe i could "knock it out" somehow..

Scott, we crossed in the posting!

At least I haven't "lost" everything... it just means that from here on blending with the base layer would be ugly and bad... a shame as that was really working for me on this one....

ah well, onward and upward ( and I'll bet I don't make that mistake again!)

I once did a 1 day painting course with an artist called Donald Seegmuller...
the big take away was " if youre good enough to paint it once you're good enough to paint it again!"
sounds trite, but it has actually freed me up to try stuff and be more bold.... I rely a lot less on layers now for example...

    @michaelm

ah the bump is now only in the color information...maybe you can invert the filter somehow (but it may be randomized)

    Exactly!
I got a layer of the bump against white and tried to combine it in "the gimp" using all the photoshop layer modes and the gimps own grain merge/ grain extract but it looks like I'm stuck with it...
    harumph...

Is there a way to export the bump map? with that isolated I may be able to do something with the "lighting fx" plug in..

no wait, I've wasted too much time thinking about this... must move on!
