    Suggestions for future releases

    Here are my suggestions for future releases (not neccesarily the next release).
    Also not sure if all is realistic (developer-wise), but these are just ideas that have come to mind.
    I have just recently started using AR and i maintain a list of improvements, ideas or things that i just miss - as i go along in AR.
    Maybe some of them have already been mentioned by others. Anyway, i'll update it every now and then, hopefully it'll be of some use.

    Last updated: September 24, 2008

    Things that are already good about AR and should def. be kept:
    ================================================== ============
    - clean interface
    - affordable price
    - stability of the program

    Things that could need improvement:
    =====================================
    - Performance. Program becomes sluggish at times (i think it's when working on higher resolutions)

    Tools:
    ===================
    - eraser: option to link size to active brush size
    - oil brush: continuous load
    - save tool settings / custom tools
    - move tool (to move layer contents realtime)
    - blender

    Color samples palette:
    ======================
    - arrange / sort / group the colorsamples
    - save color samples palette into a file / artrage project
    - possibility to have more than one palette open.
    - drag drop between palettes

    General:
    ========
    - Save for Web & devices function, like in photoshop. So you can simply publish your work without having to resize

    the project every time.
    - Copy / paste function. Any graphics-program should have it!
    - selection tools
    - autosave function
    - better performance when working in higher resolutions (300 dpi A4 / Letter)
    - possibility to move selections or layer contents by using the arrow keys
    - possibility to change color of layer contents

    User-interface:
    ===============
    - Basic mode and Expert mode. Basic mode like the way it is and Expert mode with advanced features like selection

    tools, custom brushes etc.

    I also would like to see this in the next version. Shouldn't be too difficult right?

    This is currently available as a free download for windows at the Ambient design download area. Just go to the following link and look for, "ArtRage Thumbnail Viewer for Windows".

    I would love to see a toolbar with preset brushes that you could add your own presets to. maybe have a pop up that you can check off the various attributes that you want to save. Maybe even save the color ( I have a particular technique I use for highlights that uses the same colors).

    I know this one doesn't sound like a biggie but it would make me more productive. Flipping, horizontal flipping to give the user a fresh view of his painting. ( ooh, and if you do please make a hot key for it)

    Also I would like a way to save the color palette you are using so it is the same when you start up. I get tired of having to reset the custom color pallette to my favorite color picker everytime I start up.

    Selections would be great too.

    I love this App and would love to see it mature into something that is an industry standard.

    cheers,
    -Danny

    You can flip the cavas horizontally or vertically by holding either the "H" key or the "V" key.

    This is a work around of sorts, but you could save separate .ptg files with your desired settings to your desktop as individual shortcuts. Clicking on the files will automatically open the file in ArtRage as you last saved it (cavas size, paper settings, and color picker included).

    Hi Someonesane,
    Yeah the V and H only show you views they dont flip it and leave it. When you do flip you cant paint on the flipped side. Still thanks for pointing that much out to me.

    See recently I bought 2 tutorials on digital painting. One was by a guy named Noxizmad and the other is by Jason Chan. Both are available at conceptart.org. They were like 15 bucks a piece and were both very in depth

    ( although I have to warn people that the Noxizmad tutorial is not for children of all ages. He swears and talk about watching a lot of porn during the tutorial)

    In the Noxizmad tutorial he generates an entire painting right out of photoshop. he also includes his own color wheel that you can load up into Photoshop.

    What I wanted to do was translate the tutorial into artrage but the flipping option I didnt know about . Still if we could just arbitrarily flip and keep working it would be great.

    Thanks again!

    Oh... I see. I didn't realize you wanted to work on the painting in a flipped state. In that case you can you go up to "Edit" and select "Transform All Layers". This brings you into the layer editing mode, with a menu of options on the bottom of the screen. At this point you can either click on the black arrow and select "Flip Horizontally" or just hit the "H" key once. This will flip your layers and leave them that way. Click "OK" and your image will be flipped and ready to paint on.

    In regards to a straight line draw tool,I would even be happy if u could lock a Ruler so it would act as a T-Square and slide on it's axis like the real thing, would speed up drawing parallel line work.Or have the option Ruler acts as a T-square.
