The reasons for the canvas being dragged around instead of paint being laid down tend to be that either the stylus 'right click' button, spacebar or mouse right click button is being held / stuck down.

Right click in ArtRage drags the canvas. I'd recommend checking those first, but if you're still having the problem, let us know.

    Same problem here

Have same problem here. Experienced it first in December on my old PC running XP. Reported it here but eventually thought it could be a hardware issue.

Have a completely new PC now and the same problem is happening again. Have been using Artrage before on this new PC with no problem. I start-up Artrage and the automatic update checker kicks in. It closes again (back to the canvas) when it does not find an update. Now my defaulted precise cursor has changed to the program's default oval shape. Left-clicking just drags the canvas, no painting takes place no matter what tool/brush I pick. Strangely, the "Recent File" list is empty now despite having used the program (and saved files) on previous occasions.

Normally, after 5-10 minutes the problem disappears and I can start painting again. However, chances are big it happens again next time I start-up Artrage.

I am running a licensed Artrage 2.5.20 copy on a brandnew Intel 2 Quad 2.6 with 3 G memory with Vista (yeah, I know). OS is in Spanish. My previous PC, where I experienced exactly the same Artriage 'hanging' problem, was a PIV 1800 running XP (also in Spanish). I dont use a tablet, just a normal cordless Logitech mouse. Brandnew keyboard so no risk of keys/buttons stuck either.

Problem is getting annoying now, would appreciate it solved asap. If you need more info, please let me know.

    Thanks in advance,

    Harry

    Additional Info

I have just noticed that the problem also occurs when Artrage starts-up normally. I started the program and I could paint. I then left the program running for about an hour or so and did something else in the meantime. When I eventually got back to Artrage to use it, the same problem occured again; any left-clicking only moved the canvas. Five minutes later, problem was gone again and painting possible. Odd

Did you try right clicking to see if it would reset back?

Yes but with the expected result: right-clicking moves the canvas as it should.

Perhaps it would be usefull if Popepain, the threadstarter, could post the specs of his PC (with operating system), so we can see if there are any coincidences with my system and Ambient's specialists can take it from there.

I only ask, because I've run into this problem before too (but it's happened with other programs like Photoshop). Clicking the actual right mouse button always seemed to straighten things out, allowing me to use my left button as I should. But I'm using a drawing tablet and can't recall if it's happened with my normal mouse.

    Hi Harry,

From the details of the email you sent me, I suspect there's something else causing this problem for you as you appear to be having a range of behaviors I can't reproduce here. I've contacted you back and will continue to trouble shoot it with you via email.

I have noticed some strange behaviors when there is not enough memory available for artrage. Try quitting other programs that use memory.
I know when I am reaching the end of my memory's limit when the whole window drags around with the cursor and will not unstick from the window.
