    Airbrushing question

    Hi
I need some advice on the airbrush tool please.

I would like to achieve smooth seamless sprays of color - like from a far-away airbrush that one might use for painting sky or clouds. But I always get a hard edge no matter how low the pressure or whether auto-flow is on or off :?

Another thing is I like to use the airbrush at 100% size so as to cover broad areas as seamlessly as possible, but the airbrush slows up big time on this size, making it very difficult to manage.

So I was wondering if this is normal, and how others manage?

    Thanks,
    Rowena.

    Hi Rowena,
please look at the size of the Tilt Angle in the settings for the
airbrush. If it's at a value greater than 0% then sharp edges
occures. The edges are less or more sharp depending on the
value. The airbrush settings are on the left side of the sheet.

I tested the speed of the airbrush with settings size and tilt angle
to 100%. Ok it's a bit slower of course, but it's managable on my
machine. My pc has a 1Ghz CPU and 256Mb Ram and runs windows2000
and is a 7 years oldie. Do you have Vista?

    Hi Stimpy,
    Thanks for that.
I took your advice and that got rid of the edges
I have windows XP + 2GB and so don't think memory is the problem somehow.

The funny thing is that now (some hours later) the brush has caught up to speed. So I'm thinking...could it be posible that the program needs some time to warm-up and get up to speed?

And now that the bigger brush size is tracking properly , the airbrush stroke is only about 1cm wide - is that the same on your PC?

Also, how do you get a smooth airbrushed surface? ..as building up 1cm horizontal lines causes some tiny overlapping...hense more edges ops:

Hi Rowena.. I hardly, if ever use a tilt angle on the air brush, unless I specificly want a sharp edge.. I do use the air brush with a setting of 500% wide when I want to do some fine feathering and blending.. I have 3 gig of mem and a very fast processor, running windows xp.. I experience a little lag, but not nothing that disturbs me.. Hope this helped..

    Hi again,
i'm glad you can solve a part of the problems.
To give you an idea how to paint a smooth airbrushed surface
i made a picture for you.
And in the picture there is a hint about the cursorsizes.

Artrage don't need time to warm up. It runs at full speed
immediately after starting. Not like a car(Joke)
Maybe you have a lot of time consuming prozesses running
while your are painting. A look into the taskmanager might
    help to find out that...

I hope i could help you.
    Happy spraying, Stimpy

    Thank you both
Rick, do you mean to say I can specify a brush size more than 100%?
WOW!!!!!   8)

I had no idea this was possible ops:
(So glad I started this thread and that you opened my eyes to a new possibilty).

Stimpy, thanks for explanation. And its a good tip to check up on the task manager because sometimes I do have other things running and maybe if I closed them things would change.

Thanks kindly I am so chuffed to learn I can have a bigger airbrush size!

Ro, all the tools will go to 500%.. You will be pleasently surprised with the blending you can acheive with a 500 eraser against a 500 air brush.. Happy painting to ya..
