had a real tough time finishing this one.... was foolish enough not to use layers coz with each blending stroke... something else gave way :( *cries*

Gosh - All the more impressive for the single layer execution Erwin. Lush colouring in the clothing.

Now this is really a nice painting. Very well executed. The time you spent on it paid off.

The garments are particularly fine. And you really nailed the features well. Bravo!

This is a powerfull painting. I like the unusual angle of the horizon in the back adding motion to create a warm, sweet and lively image indeed. Congratulation on a great piece of artwork.

I am wondering how you did your blending? And I don't understand your 'gave away' crisis. May we be of any help?

Thanks... well.. i like to use the palette knives after i dab on the colors. First with the standard knife and then with the soft knife. The rest of it is a variety of strokes of different pressure and directions to ensure a smoother graduation, mostly with the soft knife. What happened was that I used to work with layers, with say the eyes on one layer, the face on another and then merge them altogether when everything is just right. With one layer, during a blend stroke say on the face, the eyes would move with the stroke... yuxxxx....haha... really too many hours wasted on corrections . Probably best to work with layers.
