Splendid! Amazing colors from the photo turned into a beautiful painting with your skills. Great job.

thanks everyone.. im still learning though as I go along. Already placed an order for some books from "How did you paint that?" series to have a reference on different painting styles.

Its done entirely in AR2.5 using the three palette knives. The image of the girl was line traced and i stuck the photo on the side as a reference, half closed my eyes to see the differences in tonal values and simply experimented with the palettes (ctrl z is indeed a good friend). Flikr.com has plenty of photos in Creative Commons that I use as practice.

gzairborne... not too sure how it works particularly on the word "derivative works". Perhaps "derivative works" applies to photoshopped or montage works based on the photo. Does it apply to an artwork or painting ? thats a tough question. I suppose if we put up painting that resembles substantial portions of the original "photo realistically", a statement to say where we took it from might be required. To play safe, for good photos (rights reserved), I sent a flickr mail to the contibutor for permission.

Hope that one day I dont have to rely on photos but that is a long way off.

Nika ...thanks :)
