Is this the newest version?
If not,
1) what new features are there?
2) how do I get the newest version?

I couldn't tell what version of the app is offered on Google Play but among the bug fixes in the version of Vitae available is "color sampling speed issues". Could this be fixing your problem? I don't know if you can upgrade the app or if you have to purchase it again. The price is AUD 4.99.
