Thank you Brett for your kind words. BTW your new avatar pic - what's the story behind it?

That's my "Uncle" Geoff. RAF Hurricane and Spitfire pilot. Taken during the Battle of Britain is my guess. He used to fly over our house in the south of England and do a barrel roll on his way out on a mission and victory wing waggle on his way home. I don't remember him, just the plane. He flew Westland Lysanders at night into occupied France later on in the war and dropped off and picked up French resistance fighters and British agents. DFC and two Croix de Guerre. He was a Kiwi, of course! I just found his picture a few days ago.

In other words, he was a hero!

My 24yr old grandson graduated from university as a pilot. He wanted to join the RAAF to do his pilot training but wasn't accepted as he was too tall - 6ft4in. Apparently being ejected from the aircraft would result in the loss of his legs.

He was very lucky to land his first job in August piloting scenic flights for https://www.arkaroola.com.au/ I am so proud of him. I have yet to take a flight with him but we have plans for next year.

They were all brave, June, every single one of them. He made it back to NZ from the war, but paid a price for it. My Uncle Wally was killed on June 23rd 1943 on a bombing raid and is buried in The Netherlands.

Laugh! My son was rejected for the USAF for exactly the same reason and they told him the same thing!!
