I'm afraid I've not used the selection tools much yet so can't help you personally, but the information in the two pages linked below provide some help details. They're actually for v4.0 but should still be relevant. When you have opened the first webpage, 'tools and presets', scroll down until you get to the 'Selection Tool' section.

I think I am also going to watch tutorials with other programs, I will probably have new ideas....

I am very interested in Magic wand and Paint area.

... Now I realize that Paint area is actually Quick mask mode. It's easy and efficient!

The other tool is the Magic Wand. It would be interesting to learn all the possibilities of action but I don't see documents I can study... Too bad!

Thanks for sharing that youtube link to Doodlemachine video. The painting inside a shape technique that he demonstrated was quite a revelation to me, especially the three different ways he showed to achieve the technique.

1. Lock Transparency
2. New stencil from layer contents
3. Select layer contents

I think you could actually add a fourth way by using the Magic wand tool to select an area.
