Creating new painting vertical and horizontal

Creating new painting vertical and horizontal
I create a painting in a vertical mode and when I go into the new painting it is horizontal. I cannot figure out how to change this. Any ideas out there?

Edit > Crop/Expand Canvas; allows you to change the size and DPI of your painting.
