So I'm very new to artrage and decided to try to copy the hungry caterpillar style as an exercise using some tips from other users on this forum!
Some techniques used here:
- texture overlay (a photograph of concrete) applied to certain layers
- using one layer to cut shapes from another layer using 'select contents'
- using multiply and watercolor blend modes for different layers to emulate tissue paper
- drop shadow effect to give a 3D collage feel to certain parts of the face
- sticker spray to add spongy textures here and there

I'd love feedback on this!

Yup. Eric Carle is a great inspiration and his stuff really works on the computer. You did a bang up job. You should feel really good about it.

Thanks inc and D Akey!
I made Eric Carle's famous ice cream cone too. This time I used a better cutting method so the edges are cleaner.
I found a new way to do editable masking, I think I'll post it in the techniques part of the forums. Basically you set your texture layer to Overlay, and put a Normal layer underneath. On that Normal layer, draw your shape in plain grey. This shape will then show in your texture! That way you can edit your texture and your shape non destructively, till you're done, then you can use the shape as a mask to finally make a cut out of the texture layer.
