Welcome and already great piece of art here, bravo;)

Thanks for the welcome Rondo. I probably should of introduced myself. I usually do art before crashing out, then repeat, work, music, art and zzz's...
I'm new to Artrage, and liking it's layout and tools, still trying to figure it all out and having fun.

dabbing around with the oil brush...

very nice work and welcome to the forum Chuck. I like the beautiful buildup of textures and colors you've achieved very painterly surfaces.

Very rich color and strokes. Appreciate your bringing these nice paintings to view where we all just became bird watchers in a manner of speaking.

Thanks Dave, D Akey and gxhpainter!

D Akey I might just make this my bird painting thread... : )
Birds are so much fun to look at and paint.

I did another tonight, hope it looks right, I can barely keep my eyes open...

Thanks Pat... I'm enjoying this forum, love looking at all the great art here. : )

It looks like the forum sharpens the images.
I can see now... that I went overboard with the 'thick gloss brush' and sharpness on the owl. ; O

The images above where referenced from Paint My Photo website.

This one from my imagination, went with a typical bird shape.
I'm starting to find brushes that I really like.

Thanks Alexandra!

Here's today painting: Blue Jay ref from pmp-art.com.

It was ultra-relaxing to paint... while listening to Celtic fantasy music. : )

Very nice! I think the outline to the Blue Jay is really expressive

I like this very much- especially how the head is detailed but the rest is loosely painted. Is it watercolour?

Chuck_M

Thanks DaveRage, Enug.... : )

Enug; The Blue Jay is mostly with the oil brush. But, I tend to just grab tools without thinking.... I probably grabbed the wet palette knife. I haven't tried the watercolor brush much, that is something I need to explore.

Tonight's painting... a wise old owl. : )

Really nice, each in their own way. I especially like the owl. Has unexpected marks that well suggest 'owl'. It's a very clever approach, and as Pat said, we get to experience the process with you as our minds work with what you described and didn't need to say. Engaging.

Chuck_M you are really picking up ArtRage in a hurry, I love he technique and colors in these paintings... very well done..

I love how your paintings appear to be conjured as if pulling in colors like an application of the use of artistic magnetism. I love how the colors slip about the canvas. Really integrates the whole image so nicely and implies that sense exists for future paintings outside the canvas waiting.

This cardinal is brilliant.

I love the refracting strokes in the air, as if the spirit of the bird has just gotta take wing while the rest is perched and waiting for you to tell it where to fly. Reminds me a little of a pet dog who gets the notion that we're going for a walk. . . as soon as you remember where your priorities lie. Really fantastic paintings.

Owls are so cool, aren't they. Hard to not relate them to cats in the shape of their heads. (I wouldn't have thought to relate them to a sparrow or whatever. Mine used to eat them for breakfast). Anyway the owl is very much the predator with the eyes set forward for good depth perception. Your artistry is amazing. And the touch of whimsy is very effective. I love the painting style. Neat with the BW line art as well.

I love your brilliant blue little bird-it seems just ready to fly from the branch.
Your cat bird is a fun experiment i quite believe it would happily exist throught the looking glass with the cheshire cat
The owl makes me think of a bookplate illustration like those people had to know if someone had forgotten to return their borrowed treasures of the library- i like him very much

I blinked my eyes and in an instant, a year went by. : O
I've been all wrapped up with work and making music etc. : )

To make a long story short, here is today's painting.

Nice technique. Love the sky with all the texture and colors. Compliments very nicely your overall style.

I understand making music as being a distraction. It's far more demanding of one's time. If you don't play music for a while it really shows. With painting it's easier to jump back in after a lapse. Maybe not with everybody, but at least I'm reaching that conclusion with my playing.

Anyway, really pleasing painting, simple as the subject is. You made it really a treat to see.

Really good birds. Love the textures you get out of AR, with this patchwork Impressionist background
