This is probably reaaaaallly simple, but i STILL haven't got a clue how to achieve the following. Help would be gratefully received. Thanks!

I want to import a scanned document, which happens to be a scan of a book page. So once i have imported my book page (do i import it to layer?), then i want to superimpose a butterfly on top of this, which i have also scanned to my computer. I would like to be able to see the book page through the butterfly.

What keeps happening is i import the book page, which works fine, but then when I import the butterfly jpeg, it totally covers the book page in that i can no longer see the book page, which is not the effect I'm looking for. What I'm looking for looks like the attachment that hopefully has uploaded to this post. If it hasn't uploaded, then i hopefully you'll understand my quandary anyway!

Thanks for your help

Hello peachylife and seasons greetings:)
Actually you were closer to getting this to work than you thought!
If the background of the butterfly is pure white, the extra step you need to take is to set the Blend Mode of the butterfly layer to ‘Multiply’ and you’re there!
If the background is not pure white you may still see a faint background around the butterfly.
Ideally when doing composite images like this you would want the butterfly image to be a .png file with no background. But that’s not always possible and we have to work with what we’ve got!
So if you find that you still need to remove the background from the butterfly image you can do this by selecting that layer and then go to Edit > Filters > Remove Colour Matte…
