Blending (Thick and Thin)

Blending

Im not sure if everyone knows this technique , but i observed it while i was painting.

I think this only works in the full version(im not sure about the free one)

1. open a new painting
2. choose Basic Paper (I think you can choose the other canvas,boards as well)
3.Set it to 0% Roughness, so hte background is smooth.

4.Press OK

To show you what I found.lets do some clouds (they are not proper, very quick ones)


Choose a sky blue colour....get the roller on a large size and roll away till the paper is filled

uisng the oil brush,
with Insta Dry :ON

next put in the darkstrokes for the cloud

next the middle tones

[ENCHANTER]

then the lighter tones

[ENCHANTER]

then get the palette knife and on the left hand cloud, I started blending , so you can see the results

now what i done next is go to

Tools
Layer Options(at bottom of menu)
Edit Paper settings

click on the Grain circle, then choose canvas

Roughness to 50 %
Scale to 25%

press OK

then using the palette knife start blending the right hand cloud

after a while I found I got a smoother blend

Why didnt I start witha canvas in the first place??

Personally I found starting with a canvas takes away the paint quicker when blending, so I thought of laying down the paint first then bring in the canvas and spreading after.

Remember depending on your style , you may choose to keep the thick (impasto..i think thats the right word) paint style.
I love that too and Ive seen a lot of good paintings with that style on this gallery.

Cool how you show where the similarities at the beginning are and at which point you can diverge to achieve a very different result: painterly vs softer.
