I use the same process for all my paintings.
I trace a sketch of the outline and then use a reference pinned next to the canvas.
I always blow the reference up to the same size as the painting and have it focused on the area I'm painting.

Quite interesting indeed. Although Your approach follows a quite simple process rather than a mere intuituve burst, I confirm the outcome looks fresh and spontaneous, thus pleasantly painterly ...
