View Full Version : Quick cloud formation technique

I expect this topic has been covered many times before, but whilst playing about with oils and palette knife (I'm an ink and watercolourist normally), I stumbled across something I thought I'd share. A quick, well, fairly quick, way of making some interesting looking clouds or smoke. A sample sticker is attached, but I'm no expert (so don't laugh too much), and I'm sure you can do better! More tips

To make slightly more realistic looking clouds, I've found doing the following quite good with that particular (cloud 2) sticker:

Change these two object spray values:

rotation = 0 (so the darker base of the cloud stays horizontal to the ground)
pressure = 100 (prevents making small puffs of cloud - unless that's what you want of course!)

and I think it works better when used with:

a big brush size (150 to 200%) - softer, more fluffy
a low spray rate - more controllable
set the brush colour to a mid red colour - produces a nicer balance of grey tones
