Among all the mythical beasts, the Basilisk is perhaps the most monstrous and destructive... I imagine one of these would be enough to reduce a lush valley to a lifeless wasteland in less than a month before moving on to another place, leaving a trail of misery behind it.

But it's true it's also beautiful (and very lonely), in a certain way, and a great subject for art; I once made a watercolor of a Basilisk and decided I would make more, but in the end didn't for some reason or another, so now that I'm getting more comfortable with digital painting I wanted to make a Basilisk illustration with Artrage...

It was specially fun to play with the forest lighting and to put in elements like the fleeting birds, the fireflies and the wilted flowers... I hope you enjoy it because I certainly enjoyed painting it.

Thanks for looking! :)

Very nice design.

Very good color sense.

I like how it's keyed to a color range. Would fill a screen or page beautifully.

Only crit would be that the distance is more contrasty than your primary figure. I wouldn't hesitate to punch the foreground a little, or knock back the tree area.

Other than that though it. . . ROCKS. Appropriate for the creature that turns the looker to stone.
