matter between spaces... this blend of hard edge and watercolor a brief diversion that I hope you enjoy

Cool concept. And the image certainly poses the notion of the word. I like the idea of separated vignettes - paintings of the area between the many clearly defined genres, as handed us by historians and curators and marketers of Art.

Colors, technique and design are professionally coherent. The overall takes on the feel of a structured layout for print as well, which of course is one of the well known compartmentalizing and sorting devices in order to clarify (Aristotle would be proud).

At the risk of inviting too much chaos, sometimes it's the in between areas that hold the most opportunity for busting out of 'The Structure', thus giving us an opportunity for something new and even an evolutionary step. But the half life of any new life forms have yet to be seen.

What a bold and ambitious genius strike! :eek::cool: You framed some masters like Matisse, Mirņ, Haring and some happy expressionist into Mondrian and Rothko I see.

Beautiful watercolour pieces you used in the painting. Perhaps because I like orderliness this abstract really appeals to me - that and the watercolours too. :cool::cool:

Wow. So cool. How so you get the hard edge if you don't mind me asking? Hi Big G, ( my nickname in the family is also "G" ) to get the flat hard edge you have to turn off canvas lighting ( tools > layer options > canvas settings uncheck CANVAS LIGHTING ) and use CTRL key on Windows and CMD on Mac to constrain your marks to straight lines. I used ink pen tool with no taper, on one layer above the watercolor, and did the vertical lines, and duplicated the layer and rotated it 90 degrees and changed the blend mode and transformed it to adjust the size so I got the horizontals I wanted. The blue-green gray is a fill on a layer between the stripes and the watercolor. I then went into photoshop and used layer masks to "cut out" areas of the gray-green to reveal the watercolor layer beneath. :):):):)
