It's got a character -- a sort of here and there kind of feel, like brass buttons on a jacket. Good if that's what you're aiming for. Nice experiment.

When looking to go 'painterly' you may want to consider the dynamic range of your strokes -- varying them more. Between the stipple of the background being the same throughout, and the short strokes in the flowers, if feels very controlled or even unsure.

I look at this painting and I feel constricted because that's what it says through what you're choosing to show and how you're stating it. It's like speaking to someone who is guarded in their tone, as if speaking to a cop or a queen.

Or a different way to say it is the difference between the tight movement of RiverDance vs that of Ballroom.

The flower heads are so lively.

Love the colors and the wet textured feel of the paint. It has a good mood to it! :)

Thank everyone for your comments - I really appreciate that you take the time to post. :)

Mr.Akey - it looks controlled and unsure 'cos that's just how I felt. I really have no idea of what I am doing. It's was only the flower heads that I was trying to get loose and painterly - the background was a different story and technique.
