Trying oils again with a wee bit of wc and SOS's sponge brushes thrown in .

What one might see driving the back roads around here :)

Nice, good temperature. The warm vanishing point contrasts with the rest of the painting and creates a good focal area.

What a great mood! Love the range of warm and cool grays with the peach light source. Pleasing combination!

Excellent! It immediately reminded to me of a painting by De Nittis I love on an Appennine Mountains pass ... see herebelow.

Cool painting - in more ways than one. I will come back to this to cool me down over the next three days when our forecast is for 40'sC!

Giuseppe De Nittis?
Here there are some of his paintings ...

and here's his English wikipedia (poor) biography.

It was a pity he died prematurely at 38 when he was getting more and more appreciated and successful ...

Good one Caesar. I never knew of this artist. He's great. Seems like there were several great artists who died around this time period, nipped in the bud as it were. There were musical and visual arts kinds, but only after they had made a great contribution to the Arts - at least the ones who made a contribution. There are probably also countless who were taken too soon to make their marks.

The feel from this painting is very effective. I can just imagine the chill dampness in the air. It actually gave me goosebumps. Good job!

Very nice and soft.

I have been seeking the right wording for how your painting makes me feel - it took many days of coming back to see it, and at last the exact words came:

I find you express very very well the silence and quiet of being snowed in, and nature sleeping it off till spring. There is a feel of "hibernation" - this is the notion I had been trying to pinpoint all week.

Thanks Ken :)

Rachel, your very right about the feeling of solitude that comes with the snow and the silence (I love it LOL) :) , the East Coast must be also feeling that very much from what I hear :D

Tell me about it... Too much snow in Nova Scotia for me... I'm more of a summer person so I need to flee Halifax....
