Hi all, So this painting was inspired by The Bombardment of Algiers in 1816 by George Chambers Senior.

Man this was such a struggle to do. But, I am pleased as a first effort. So enjoy!

A struggle it might have been but it was well worth the effort. Fantastic work.

indeed a fantastic composition. I just have a small amount of confusion related to the sails position. As they are represented now looks like the boats are moving in reverse, not toward the horizon, otherwise the rear masts should be visible completely, wich would give greater dynamics to whole action.... just observing.

Great observation Orkhan. It is a little disturbing.

Hi Victor.....The texturing of the sky and water, the shadowing of the sails and the brightness of the explosions and fires
gives this a good depth to the over all painting...Nicely done!
Take care,
Steve

Nice one Admiral. You sea the battle and took up the fight! Looks like you've set sail to some interesting territory. You have ambition inclined to take on lots of detail. Coming along!

Well, thank you all. Aside from the ship's sails going backwards . . . I am really happy with the results!

I am so happy digital gouache doesn't build up and make a mess! I tried to get this effect years ago and gave up - it was a disaster! LOL

Love it. Very beautiful color palette and like how you use the color to do the lighting and contrast. As well as great texture canvas you used. I can feel that intense battle and the burning flames from the battle. :)
