Hi Jean. Overall looks good. The flowers do look like they're dried out, if that's what you were after. I think part of that is the lack of saturation in the flower itself, whereas the background color is a bit more intense. So by comparison your subject looks a wee bit bereft of vitality.

Also when you go painterly on the subject throughout, you might want to carry some of that painterliness into the background. People who paint flowers in a vignette way, meaning with basically a flat color background, are rendering the flower in an almost photographic way -- as something of a photographic representation and then the background is actually not intended to be part of the image. Often nature illustrators and graphic designers use that as a vehicle for spotlighting the subject.

I would bet the painting you did would look great on a painterly background as opposed to flat color with a canvas weave. Like oil and water a little now. The nicely painted flower sits apart on top of that canvas a little like a cut out pic in a scrapbook.

Thanks operated :)

DA, I appreciate that you take the time to comment , I goofed on the texture in trying to get drippy bits and once I had finished the flowers I just couldn't think of anything for the b/g , I will try and redo it without texture and see if my mind will at least participate in the operation , thanks again :D
