I have stumbled upon an embroiderer who does the costumes for major films like Elizabeth 1, and many more.

The work is exquisite and many of you might enjoy seeing this close up. I was amazed!

Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh. . . Look at that embroidery. . . and of course the designing around Helen Mirren. . . gotta be a sweet job. . .

Super beautiful. I wonder about the embroidered eye. . . just how close that would have been to actual costumes they had done way back then for Elizabeth (I confess I didn't have time to read the pages -- just as so often is the case in my life, I looked at the pictures and ran with it).

Oddly enough, I never in years past have given a second thought to costume design. Being close to Hollywood, I have seen costume designers' retrospectives like Edith Head and so forth. And I couldn't get out of those exhibits fast enough. At those times I was youthful and so were the girls I knew. But now that I'm older and women are too (odd how that happened). . . I actually admire greatly adornment and the artistry of making women of all kinds beautiful.

And ya gotta love dragonflies!

Hi tere i realise this post is very old, i just wanted to comment on it and hopefully get an answer on some questions i have. This is lovely work and i remember as a embroiderer back in the day ( yes i am an old lady ) this is what most of us did. It seems now however the whole industry has turned to mass producing i feel like its become more of a production environment now rather than a exclusive artistic one.
This being said people like myself or are that are in the business that i am in are also forced to adapt to these ways. It was always my dream to make wonderful pieces such as this for a living however reality has forced me on producing company logos and school clothing.

Maybe i wasnt good enough or knew the right people i wonder how much this kind of thing still exists.
