After it seems like forever I Have completed another drawing.
The following picture I think has been my most challenging.
The lattice work behind the rose was tedious and time consuming.
After getting the layout for the lattice work completed. I used various shades using the chalk tool, Blended those colors together and then used the airbrush and pencil to apply wood grain effects.
After that the rose and the leaves.

Well it's paid off with a gorgeously detailed illustration. I think the tedium is in fact part of this style of realism. The good news is that it gets to be second nature and you don't even have to think about it after a while. Some people like to get lost in such pass times though because it can get to where the process can let the mind drift once the main considerations are thought through. After that it's just a matter of completing the area. But it certainly can be fun, and the pride in accomplishment is formidable.

On the other hand, I think the mechanical tedium is why artists started breaking away from realism toward the end of the 1800s. They still wanted to do art, but not make it such a repetitive labor of following the formulas for Classical realism and so forth.

But without a doubt, this looks just super and you did a wonderful job on it. It would look great in a book or hanging on a wall. Well done. Big payoff.
