05-29-2013, 04:22 PM
We have just uploaded an update to ArtRage that brings the Desktop, Steam, and Demo versions to version 4.0.4.

This update contains the following changes:

Fixed a problem that could cause cursor behaviour issues on Windows running with a 150% magnified screen. See technical notes below.
Fixed a bug that could prevent Package Files written in ArtRage 3 that contained Chalk presets not to install properly in ArtRage 4.
Fixed a memory leak that could occur on uninstalling Package Files.
Fixed a crash that could occur in situations where the app was unable to read the contents of the Tool Presets Collection folders.

Downloading the Update:

For owners of our standard desktop version the update can be downloaded from the Member Area (http://members.artrage.com) if your product has been registered. For information on downloading and registering, see here (http://www2.ambientdesign.com/forums/showthread.php?41712-Member-Area-Downloading-ArtRage). Once you have downloaded the installer, double click it to run and it should overwrite the current version of ArtRage with the new one.

For owners of the Steam version of ArtRage 4 the product should update automatically when you launch your Steam Client. If you are launching ArtRage from a shortcut rather than the Steam Client please start up Steam and make sure the product updates. The next time you launch you will be launching 4.0.4.

Demo users can download a new installer from our Demo Page (http://www.artrage.com/artrage-demos.html). Once you have downloaded the installer, double click it to run and it should overwrite the current version of ArtRage with the new one.

Technical Note for Windows Users:

The first item in our fix list refers to problems that appeared in ArtRage 4.0.3 running on Windows machines that had screen magnification set to 150%, such as the default layout of the Surface Pro. Symptoms of the problem included the canvas 'flicking' between multiple locations while dragging and sliders rapidly flicking between different values during use. In some cases we have seen problems with invalid paint strokes being generated at the end of painting.

The fix we have implemented should resolve these problems but the relates to a Windows function change that may cause some issues for Windows Vista and Windows XP users when using a 64-bit operating system and documents larger than 2Gb in size. We have done some testing and not seen problems so far.

If you are a Windows Vista or Windows XP user with a 64-bit operating system and you see any problems during canvas drag or while dragging a slider grip, please let us know via the Support Page (http://www.artrage.com/artrage-support.html) and we can provide an alternative executable that should resolve the problem.

We are currently talking to Microsoft to see if a solution can be found for the issue that appeared in 4.0.3 when we implemented the new Windows cursor code.
