Just messing around trying to make a true stencil type. Time consuming, but has potential.

That's really good and interesting too. It looks like a wood or lino cut.

I love linocuts! I have a friend who does it the 'old fashioned' way, and I drool when I go to her place. She is very good.

This one is better I think. I like the canvas texture.

Hi Robyn really like the second one, I think the subtleness suits the subject.

I'm still working on this one. Lots of hours later, I am pondering on the sky. I might make a new stencil of clouds......

I like the random colour application with a rough canvas texture.

Robyn, these are great. They remind me so much of the past time illustrative works of Margaret Price. I bought a children's book with her illustrations because I loved her work. Great work.

That is just excellent Robyn. It catches the spirit of the child exactly.

Thank you all for your kind comments. They're time consuming, but fun to do once the stencil is created. I've got some ideas to refine the last one yet! :)

Stencils are tools that have a lot of possibilities. I have an older friend who still likes to do coloring with crayons and color pencils and pens. I am thinking I will use stencils to make her a series of pictures for coloring. This could also be done for young ones who enjoy coloring.

You look as if you enhance them, while keeping it looking un-enhanced. Meaning that when a line drops out or is needed, you have added it in. And I like where it is also broken as it gives a certain aged look.

As to the overall impression, it's stunning. Certainly the muted darker blue base is far more benign than black. It lends a faded nostalgic print quality, while it also plays well with the other fill colors.

Good on ya.

I'm a bit troubled by the shading on the arms and legs. It's a bit harsh. I might delete that and do it in a 'multiply' rough wash in flesh colour.

Love them all. Just beautiful and clever stencils.

I've taken the offending shadows out, and blocked in a rough sky. What do you think?

(Thank you Lima!) :)

Thanks Pat and Coops! Yes, they take a while, but once they're created, you can have fun trying different colour options. I'm getting the big printer out today and seeing how they look on paper. :)
