View Full Version : A Portrait of Casey (Ipad)

02-27-2013, 12:08 AM
Done using the Adonit Jot Touch in ArtRage using Ink Pen set at 1-3% with full taper. I traced the eyes nose and mouth to get them in the corrects positions before I started, then all the fur was done with the ink pen following the direction from a reference photo enlarged on my desktop.
A Portrait of Casey, painted for Pat1940, I hope you like it Pat.

Wonderful Christine! Your hairs are so beautifully drawn. Pat should be very, very pleased. :D

Thank you Robyn, I have had to take it into photoshop to get the levels correct because the colors on my ipad must be out, the whites turned out to be very dull on my imac's calibrated screen, the original image is in my Gallery.

Beautiful portrait of a lovely dog, well done:)

02-27-2013, 02:21 AM
Such a nice painting of Casey! Sometimes people lose the essence of the dog in their zeal to paint every little visual detail. You've painted a wonderfully detailed portrait without losing any of Casey's personality.
Lovely! L

Hi Christine just received this off Pat so thought I would pass it on.

Hi Geoff, still waiting on nursing home, the painting of Casey is so beautiful, I look at it every day, can't wait to get back home, but looks like it will be awhile yet, take care.

Thank you Geoff, hopefully it all goes well and her mum gets settled in her new place.

Saphire, your iPad work is stunning. Amazing painting, congratulations.

The fur is impressive, but the light effects even more so! Great!

Wow, on an IPAD? crazy. I have artrage for IPAD but it lags too much for me to consider using it. I'm very impressed:) I can't wait to see what else you can do on it! Maybe its time for me to revisit using it...

beautiful work Christine! amazing!

Thank you Lima, Caesar and screenpainter for taking a look and giving very kind comments they are very much appreciated.

jbeau, there is a little lag but not that noticeable, it still doesn't take the pleasure out of using it as my preferred painting package.
I have the 64gb ipad 3, before I start I close all parked applications and run a program called system status to clear the memory, I save often and every couple of hours I saves as a copy and carry on with that. I only delete all the extra copies after I have finished.
I usually have about 8 layers on the go, one for each segment of the painting, then if I make a mistake or I don't like something I am not disturbing finished areas.

Oh wow, this is just super, so much detail, love it :) I am assuming this is done in oils ?...having never used them before, methinks I will have to try them out if this is what can be achieved with them.

Thank you drawing4art for you comment, all the fur in the painting was done with the ink pen set between 1 and 2% with full taper, I used the airbrush for the eyes nose and mouth.

I love working with the pen tool, but never thought about using it to do an animal, but your lovely work has inspired me to try it out on a dog myself :)

Holy Mackerel! That's the most wonderful fur. The whole animal reads so very well. Awesome!!!!

Christine, you are the queen of fur-painting!!! Absolutely, marvelously, well done ;)... particularly since you have sailed past the usual pitfall of much detail - looking 'labored'. Hats off to you! :D

Your Ipad should be very proud... for once Apple did a real good thing... I see no better reason for a tablet than this (and reading books next to tea/coffe). Beautiful work :o

Christine, I have a friend here that has an Ipad and wants to know what stylus you use to get such precise lines? Ta. xxx

Thank you Orkhan, Pia for your comments, they are very much appreciated.

Copespeak, I use the adonit jot touch for all my work. I have two adonits the jot pro and the Jot Touch but use the touch now for everything it has a dampened tip and is pressure sensitive. when using both of these, a screen protector must be used at all times, I change mine every 3 months because of very fine marks which take the sharpness away, they say it won't scratch if you keep your screen spotless, it only takes one speck of dust under the tip you miss when cleaning and you could have a scratch.

There is a new version of the Jot pro out with a dampened tip.
Coming soon is a new Jot touch with the extra of palm rejection.
This is their website in America but you can buy in the uk

Nice to see you back Pat. I hope everything went well with your mum and she is now settled in her new home. It was a pleasure doing the painting of Casey I loved doing it I am just so glad you like it.
The version I sent you was straight from ArtRage on my ipad but I found when I put it up on my PC which has a calibrated monitor it was warm and dark so I took into photoshop to alter the white point. The one at the start of this thread is the edited version, so if you want a copy let me know.

03-18-2013, 05:22 AM
Christine, thankyou, I would love a copy

03-18-2013, 06:13 AM
Pat a new copy has been sent.
