Something about this speaks to me. I may be at odds with "art instructors" but I feel there is a style here that deserves to be explored.

There is a sense, to me, of fading (greying, fleeting) beauty and the sadness that came from her realizing that her beauty was always the most "important" thing about her.

Maybe she has lost her husband to divorce or to death and realizes that she will now be left to chart her further course based on who she is rather than how she once looked.

So she wonders, "Who am I?"

Donlaczi,
The artwork is quite impressive. The textured effect brings a
sensitive quality/setting to this eloquently attired "Lady" who's
withdrawn demeaner seems to indicate a now reluctant resolve
and silence. A handsome piece ... well done! :D

Nice painting. Definitely evokes a mood as noted by the other comments. Good job!

If I were thinking of a song to go with this I would have to pick this one:

I like the way you were able to convey softness even though the brush strokes are so defined. Says to me that this woman may appear to be a fading, delicate flower but there is steel in her fiber which will carry her through any rough spots. It's great when an artist can use elements like texture counter intuitively to convey deeper meaning below the surface. Nice!

An interesting style, in some ways simple but very effective, certainly conveys a mood.
