I was taking my "nana nap" this afternoon and woke up to find one of our cats had joined me.

This is a five minute pencil sketch with some wash added in AR.

Ben Shahn's got nothin' on you mate. I like your loose line a lot.

Laugh! You always challenge me Dakey. Who is Ben Shahn. I say to myself? Off to google :o

I wish I was as good as Ben Shahn. Wonderful drawing! Not as good as Egon Schiele, but I admit I am entirely unreasonable in my love of Egon!

Thanks for the compliment.

Oh, I thought you would find a kindred spirit with the way you draw occasionally, particularly with the drawing you did here. I've always admired his work for the niche he carved out for himself.

I don't draw like this, but I really like the freedom and interpretative quality of this vintage of line & wash artists. That includes your stuff. It's a wonderful road to go down. Liberating. :D

This attached drawing is by Ben Shahn and I think it illustrates my comparison, at least in spirit.

Brett, how dedicated of you to fall asleep with your sketch pad just in reach -- I do the same with my iPhone :-) ... In ancient China, artists often were judged by their ability to depict cats ... Amateurs would paint a cat in broad daylight with pupils widely dilated, but the professionals would know to narrow the eye slits, and this would please the emperor to no end ... But you've outdone all of them, your cat is asleep! :)

D Akey, nice Medusa! ...
