Done from a ref photo and a rough trace of face outline to get the various elements into approximately the right places.
Although a modern lady, my choice of skin tones was an experiment in giving a slightly aged look to the piece.
The hair was sticker brush and pen tool

Limey, I love the way you have captured the light falling on her face and shoulder. And her hair is wonderfully painted. Fo me, the skin tone is beautiful. The pose intrigues me. I wonder what she was looking at before she turned to look at us!

Well done! This is really nice work. Faces are so difficult to look convincing and she does.

wonderful work here Geoff, I like the slightly aged tone to the skin and background, so your experiment worked out well . a beautiful portrait..

Thanks for that , the large earring was just something I made to add a little bling to the painting.
I likely made it too large but these days ladies wear just all sorts of crazy designs so I thought well go for it.

Masterful. Love it. For me the gold earing is a little much for the painting style wise. A suddle approach would be less distracting from her face. Show the golden shadowed and blended to match the rest of the painting.

Either way is beter than I can do.

Thanks and yes I think I over did things with the earring , I think it should be smaller and not so bright, it does kind of glare just a little.
I must admit not one of my strong points painting bling in any way.

Here is an example of what I had in mind but I am sure with your skill your lines and blending and shapeing will be beter than mine. I hope I don't offend you with the liberty I took to give you some ideals.
