What you do in an hour and half would take me days. Outstanding..

Painted like lightning. . . not the speed of the speed painting. . . but your subject.

Excellent. Would have lots of places to use this, from paperback covers to production illustrations or game. Great atmosphere. The lightning, as you know, really makes it and sets the tone for what is to come as we approach this remote place.

Not entirely sure about the lateral smears working in the rocks as it stands now. The character of the rock there differs from the rest and as such it is a little distracting and lacking detail as in the areas close at hand (photo or "garbage matte" texture). If you use a technique like that, I would go in and differentiate them and do some extra work, even if you clone parts from elsewhere. I know it's speed painting. But you can incorporate texture detail into speed paintings if you overlay it last with a couple tweaks rather than first.

But this is a really fine piece, and it conveys a mood of wonder and mystery.

Super atmospheric lighting!

I like the atmophere very much.:):):) So warm and light, great sun rays and wonderful effect of sultriness in distant buildings.

Thanks everyone for liking this....I Made a few more tweaks to it and sent it on to the publisher. They loved it and sent it onto the author...he rejected it. he said I didn't capture his vision and wants me to not add lightning (he said he doubts that there is lightning on mars) and there was to much dust. He said that the city is supposed to be vague but not subdued by a sand storm......so it's back to the drawing Board lol anyway the only part of the painting he liked was the foreground...he said it made the scene feel swishy...what ever he meant by that i haven't a clue but he liked the foreground only . anyway thanks for all the comments!!!!

Ugh. . . hahaha. Right. You just reminded me of some of the fun of commercial art and clients who are from another planet. Sorry about it Cartuneman.

Mars is swishy. Hahaha. Wonder what they had to say about that on Olympus. Oy kavults. . .

I didn't coin the phrase " you can't judge a book by the cover..............." think I've heard it in a song from my youth.

Picking him up on a few things .............. if Mars was once home to a race of beings then their activities would have produced the right conditions for lightning...........and you could tell him that Mars has the biggest volcano in the solar system.........he should watch videos of an eruption ...........the one in Iceland springs to mind............clouds of ash and smoke FULL of lightning!

Here endeth my judgement on the author!!!!!!!!!!

and just remembered ........................the first time I saw it I knew it was Mars!
