Nice one Jack.

But you know what I'm going to say -- the depth would work for you to have it lighten toward the horizon. But that's just a trick to create the illusion of depth through what they call 'atmospheric perspective'. Again, it's not what would actually be there necessarily, but it would read 'distance' because that's how the mind would translate it. Also makes it more interesting as a pic to vary it, and that's one way to do it.

Thank you all for your replies,I do appreciate feedback, thank you for looking at my work.
Thanks especially to Mr D Akey who's advice is valuable,I have reworked the painting to reduce the dark horizon line of the sea against the sky,I have tried to keep a clear definate line there because it is a clear visibility day,but I understand that you cannot really have faded grey land formations in the far distance and not do the same for the sea,and again I stand corrected,I could have reduced the horizon line further but wanted to try and keep the distinction between land sky and sea, without it disappearing into grey,or bluey grey mist,as it does with atmospheric distance,as you so correctly discribe it,and I know you have mentioned this before, and I am coming round to your way of thinking, the changes are quite subtle at the horizon ,I hope that it is enough, THanks D,your advice has been heeded....Jack.

Hard to believe this is from imagination. You have such knowledge of the details. Very good.

Both version are spectacular! The first one, with a stronger and warmer light, could well be some place on the Sardinia coast in summer. Bravo!
