I see the eye seeing the I through your image.

:) Must have been blind in that eye, didn't see it until you said it ... The eyes have it ... now I'm having visions of Odilon Redon's cyclopic eye in the garden ...

a great build up of pencil and color love the way the colors blend with this method...

... and, in some ways, an incredibly inefficient way to create an image :) ... but I'm interested more in the process than in the result, so six hours of cross-hatching passes in ... about six hours:) ... I'm posting a detail that shows, I think, how the pencil was set down, resized, and then reworked over the resizing ...

That is great blending with the pencil, china, good work:):):)

Back to the lily pond ... this time with chalk over pencil ...

I am really liking this.. the way the space closes in and opens up hiding and revealing... the work of Mark Tobey comes to mind here..:cool::cool::cool:

Your close-ups are really intriguing. The interwoven colors here are so elegant and sophisticated!

Cesare, thanks, texture and weaving are related etymologically, so ... And Gary, thanks for the reminder about Tobey, an artist whose work I seem to have neglected over the years ... Next time I'm at the PAM, I'll be sure to look for him ... Assuming I'm not detained by security, hehe ...

I like the idea of opening and closing, hiding and revealing, maybe that's why D'Akey saw an eye ... These are good verbal analogs for what I was trying to do, play in the space between color and black-and-white, between line and form ...

Here I return to the lily pond with a watercolor wash over pencil and chalk ... The cross-hatching in colored pencil at various widths lends structure, and the watercolor overlay produces effects not possible, as far as I can tell, with the palette knife, or with any other combination of tools in AR (admittedly, I haven't exhausted possibilities) ...

I love the lily pond you did titled 0411 right before this one. made a great abstract. amazing textures achieved with chalk and pencil.

Another fascinating beauty in a microcosmus.

Really like the way they are morphing from to another. Great texture!

chinapete.. love the softly focused look and rich darks, the burst of magenta is like glimpsing a lotus flower bursting out in color from the dark muddy waters. most excellent..:):):)
