Hi all,
This is an art journal page for an online challenge - http://artjournaling.ning.com/ . The topic this week is to pick something mundane from your daily life and use it for inspiration. I picked the enormous daily salad that I eat in an effort to manage my weight. Canít say I always enjoy eating them but I always think they are pretty when I fix them.

The challenge also has color and material suggestions. The material selection this week was watercolor which I havenít played with much on ArtRage. Couple of things I found with using the watercolor feature. First, the color varies a lot depending on how much thinner (water) you use. Second, itís very transparent. So, for example, when I did the lettuce on the edge of the bowl, the color of the bowl showed through. So when I layered things I had to go to the previous layer and erase. This caused a problem later on when I wanted to resize/move things. I was going to move the bowl up but I had erased the table underneath so it wouldnít show through. I decided to leave it rather than repaint it. The tomatoes have about 8 layers on them to get them that intense in color. One trick I learned was that I could make the color more intense by duplicating the layer. In fact, on the bowl, 2x the original seemed too dark, so after duplicating the bowl layer, I set the second one to 50% opacity and so it ended up being 1.5% darker which seemed right to me.

The thing I like best on this page is the tomatoes Ė which came out better than I expected. Iím trying to learn how to draw on my Wacom Bamboo. I like to do the drawing lessons over on Drago. Thatís where I learned how to draw the bunny.
