Advice, well, let's see.

I think in the matter of highlights, you might want to pick one (primary) light source like an open window, and when you do reflections from it, they could hit the various object surfaces from the same direction. You can always add other light sources, but the trick is to keep it consistently coming from the same spots when you do your highlights on the objects in the pic based on it/them.

In this case the apples' highlights are coming from slightly different places. Also, you can really shine up glazed surfaces like on porcelain and crockery with some well placed highlights. One can do what you did, which is great, and then pop on a highlight and voila!

You're very close to having the lighting thing doing your complete bidding.

If you do choose to try it on this one, be sure to save a copy of the original and work on a duplicate, and try stuff out on layers that you can delete if necessary as you try things out.
