View Full Version : Dog portraits on iPad

As the dog nerd I am I know I will paint a lot of dog portraits in ArtRage, so from now on I will keep them in an own thread. I'm still learning, but this is so fun so I canī't help sharing.
This painting I was busy with several hours and then the iPad crashed so everything was lost ... so now I have learned to save.

Hard to find a better iPAD painting than this one. Very luminous and sunny!

I also like the strong shadow and sunlight through the window. You have that balance between making it looking realistic but at the same time still very much a painting. Very nice - thank you for sharing.

I'm not an iPad user but I did notice the following thread in another section which might be of some help:

Your dog portraits are AWESOME!!! I'm myself a "dog-person" as well ;), having too dogs. I should try to portrait them as well. But I don't have that lightness I see in your painting. Have to master that

Thanx Jono, your words make me very happy, that it looks like a painting even if it's very realistic. I try to relate rather freely to my photographic reference - a difficult balance.

Thanx also for the link to the 'crashing thread', it was indeed interesting reading!

Hi Denisa, nice to meet somebody from Sweden here :-D
That would be awesome if you painted your dogs too, I would love to see them!

Really nice job, my only slight comment is that I think given where the dog is sitting, maybe the shadow from the dog is a little too strong.
A very good painting.

Thank you for creative criticism, I can see what you mean ... and I also see that it lacks shade right to the left of her butt.

Been busy trying to make a Christmas card in ArtRage yesterday and today. The result was not as spontaneous as before, and a bit too photo-realistic. Trial by error:p

Thank you,

(Here a little explanation why I do that)
It is because I am afraid that I say something that is very unkind, or incomprehensible, or perhaps sometimes worse, that is absolutely not my intention. But I try and hope that it says what I mean with lots of help of dictionaries.

I have seen three beautiful portraits of a dog and each one relates something more about this great companion. I have a real sense of the dog after I view the painting.

Was in Malmo and Lund this summer visiting our (Witting) family line that did not come to America. It was like coming home

Your iPad work is magnificent. Best I have seen.

Have you talked to Ambient about solutions to the crashing problem?. One I would adopt before starting ArtRage is going through the process of closing all open applications (see iPad manual) and turning the iPad off. Memory can become short and you know this when a symbol appears on the bottom of the screen when using ArtRage.

I know the guys at Ambient and the people in this forum will help you.

Very, very nice Christmas card.
A homemade card is so much more fun than a regular card

Thanks, it's fun with personalized Christmas cards but shrubs and trees with snow on is not easy, I am far from satisfied with the painting

I know what you mean, I use Google to correct what I write here. I feel sad not being able to express either humor or nuances in English :(

Interesting that you have Swedish relatives but not surprising given how many people who emigrated from Sweden.

The crashing problem is no big deal, only happened once and it was my own fault that hadn't saved. Thanx for the tip closing all other apps down while working in ArtRage!

I had forgotten how much fun it is to draw and paint with Artrage, today I'm at it again, downloaded the fantastic sketch brushes by 'someonesane', didn't use them in this pic though.
I try to learn about the layers and how to record the script - that is not easy. Shall I add up all the layers before I finish recording, or....?
