Lately, I've been filling the canvas with an off-white base color, and just using the Crayon tool (Pressure 50%, Softness 75%). However, this sort of thing depends greatly on how one wants the finished image to appear. Do you have any examples of the style you are looking to recreate?

Here's a couple of quick examples using the method I just mentioned:

Thanks for your tips. As you can guess I'm a beginner in Artrage as in painting.
It's just what I want. I'll try the crayon tool.

I was just working on this but it's honestly one of the few things Artrage don't really seem to have a good tool for. I want a tool that picks up texture, is dry, and yet the size as well as the opacity is related to pressure. If I had tilt I wouldn't need size related to pressure, but as I use a tabletpc its mute anyways. But the truth is that analog charcoal is very fluidly changeable in size and so should its digital alternative, IMO. Unfortunately neither chalk or crayon relate size to pressure. Pen does but it doesn't take texture. And I can't seem to get a good emulation out of the watercolor brush I which does relate to all 3- texture, size, and opacity.
