Another Interior. Brought on I guess from "Grandma's Letter" I tend to do at least two images that relate. Orig working size 12x16" at 200 ppi. 3 layers. Impressionism (Except I got carried away with the clock)

Looks so inviting and homey. I love the dark tones that make the scene so inviting. Clock not over the top before you pointed it out. Not really after either. :) Great painting Skylar!

Jean - just for you... (actually, it's a Good addition, it just changes it from a still life)

It's just unbelievable beautiful and interesting scene. It has two highlights at once... I mean of course Grandpa, but I cannot get rid of o thought, there is some mystery association between the old man an the old clock... This is just symbolic in some way. Masterpiece so far...

The addition of Grandpa really changes the painting into something very special.

A wonderful warm and comforting still life Skylar and the addition of Granddad makes it even more special

Such mood through lighting and color. And the inclusion of the other grandpa reading the paper is absolutely what was needed. The energy of the pair of them together is calibrated in your painting like a fine timepiece.

You just skyrocketed this one to a whole new level with that. And really well painted figure. I love how you detailed him and the paper. The attitude is incredible and so utterly credible. It also speaks of an older time when televisions were not blaring, where thoughts were less a barrage, where one had time to consider details, and the only sound was the heartbeats of the man and the clock.

Rich and juicy colors. Wow.

Strandy - I see what you mean! There is a relationship between the Grandfather Clock & Grandfather. Thanks for pointing that out.
Limey, SheChat- Thanks so much for the second look.
DAkey - Thank you for the wonderful insights

We can thank Jean for her fresh eyes seeing something that should be there.
One of my favorite teachers always said it takes two artists to paint a picture. This is one example of why...

JWitt- Thanks fo noticing - I really put some work into that clock's works.
Saphire- Thank you so much.
GXH- Thank you! I started out with the palette. Jean was the first to voice the need for a figure. I'm really glad this is digital, because the update was relatively easy- just a new layer.

Warm and cozy, and even a little bit sad. Awesome painting!

Very Well done I applaud you sir. The adding of the Grandfather made the total difference to this painting. The lighting totally captures the evening feel as he resolves his day with the news. and the element of the clock adds the timeless feel of the scene. This reminds me of my grandfathers chair. next to the stand up Philco Radio. (Never watched TV he said it would be the ruin of us all) Next to him he always kept a chiseled carnival glass bowl of butter mints, We would sit on his lap and listen to his adventures and he would give us all a mint when we visited. Thank you for reviving a memory that still warms my heart. WELL DONE! That's what it's all about isn't it?!

Skylar, thanks for adding grandpa now it's perfect in my minds eye , the empty chair really struck me as my hubby passed away this past Jan and his chair looks so lonely sitting there empty

09-06-2011, 05:30 PM
Lovely and warm...a pull at the heartstrings. This brings tears to my eyes, it is so full of emotion. It reminds me of my Dad, sitting alone in his chair, and then, too soon and suddenly, the chair is left empty.

09-06-2011, 08:29 PM
wow this is really great, deep and rich colours, like grandad :D

09-12-2011, 04:31 AM
I love this Skylar! It reminds me of my father as well. He loves grandfather clocks.

A marvellous painting and idea! The chair here, befor and after, is a way to go through the death barrier, as memory and love allows us to do, and take back our beloved to warm our life and teach us over and over ...

09-12-2011, 11:25 PM
Both paintings are outstanding dear Sky I have a personal preference for the first one:):)
