We have an abundance of Turkey Vultures flying around over our bush.
On any warm afternoon there can be 20 - 30 of them in flight.

Not a very pretty bird and yet so majestic in flight, with their large wings catching the warm thermal air currents they can soar to great heights with barely a beat of their wings.
Done in chalk with watercolour sky

Surreal lookin' varmints, aren't they? Rather noble looking except for the face which connotes a whole other kind of creature. Very nice picture.

One of Your best and a masterpiece. It's not got to be a beauty, but to be fit and majestic. You prefectly represented its noble posture!

Thanks everyone for taking a look and commenting on a subject which is not so appealing.

We have a dead large tree that sits in the hedgerow between my farm and next door. On a dismal kind of day when you get a number of these birds resting on the large limbs of the tree with their wings all drooped it gives the scene a very macabre feeling.

One beautiful bird in flight and one beneficial bird to our planet. I think they are really cool. Great painting Geoff!

Thanks Alexandra and I agree with you on how important they are in natures food chain.
The fact that they only feed on dead carcasses which does leave food for other animals down the food chain after they have done with it.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks for taking a peep, I did not think that anyone would look at it with it not being a very pretty subject.

"not pretty"? well .. imho it is a very well done painting, I like how the bird doesn't care at all if some human being thinks it's pretty or not :D

great work on the feathers and bark, and I also like your watercolour sky :)
well done!
