Bread is after all an imagination exercise. This means no tracking... no picking... no reference images...
Oil, Knife, some Airbrush

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure why did I paint it :p:confused:

... going to the essence of our need ... I like very much this painting and love bread in all its forms and recipes (and we've got so many regional versions here with simple but tastefully mating ingredients ...)

I think My Sliced & Torn belongs with yours!!! This is such a good image!

Hi Skylar,

I believe, your 'Sliced & Torn' is the most valuable comment to mine Bread, that I could ever expect :) I'm certainly sure, that sharing artwork makes even more sense, if it spreads inspiration in some way.
Your painting is not only brilliant. It shows this multi-faceted subject in another challenging form.

@Betty and Juz: Thank you very much digging in and comments. They are very appreciated.:)

Making bread with art is something many want to do. So it doesn't surprise me why you did it.

(since you're from Germany, English slang: bread = money)

But it's a really good painting! I very much like the hand-done quality, which makes it feel like a painting, while the detail as you created it is perfect in that context. Well done, and hope you make lots of bread.

Oh, yum! It looks good enough to eat!

07-28-2011, 04:24 AM
Strandy.... a richly colored painting.. for me it is a statement of the simple qualities of a home... the warm smell of bread and the simple colors of a kitchen... well done ;);):):):)

Thanks again for your warm comments Folks. :)

Hehe, :D D Akey, Your comment reminds me of something from the past. In my young years I tried myself as a street painter. (You know these crazy guys with rucksack full of colour chalk...) There was sometimes daily return in form of some buns / baps /rolls literally meant. That was fun... :)

Now this is bread. Far different from what we eat. It is a meal unto itself. In Sweden my "Me Me Ma" would bake loaves every day. In the afternoon it would come out of her oven and it would be served hot, buttered lavishly with a glass of milk.

You represent bread that I can taste.

Strandy, this is a most powerful painting. Beautiful. Congrats.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm. This brings back memories of my mother's bread. There is nothing as enticing as the smell of fresh baked bread straight from the oven. The best part was the heel of the warm loaf just slathered with butter.

I think this is where art reaches right to the heart, when it evokes emotions. This one evokes the memory of the gentle love of our mothers and their care for us by their labors to nourish us.

Really well done!
