This is Wonderful. I'm not sure I remember my first image. I had AR for some time before I posted to this site. But, I think I posted this one, as it was just about to be published..."Weeds"

Love the cats. Very cool.

This was my first one I did. I'm sure there were doodles as I was trying out the tools, but this is the first completed and posted one. I think I spent maybe a total of five minutes on the demo before buying it.

Looking back, I see now how I could improve upon it, but I won't. It's a good reminder of my progress. ;)

It was a recreation of a painting I have here at home, I did it shortly after reading the Dragonlance: Chronicles series by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

Perhaps one day I will try a Castle v 3... :p

Beautiful painting!

Wonderful idea for a thread. Here is mine, an exercise in going wild with discovering what fun could come out of these marvelous AR tools. I had no idea what would come out - it was sort of "Well, what does this tool do? Wow, that's GREAT". I was immediately in love with the rapid undo, given there was a lot to undo. I hadn't discovered layers yet, so this is all one layer. I too was hooked on AR from the instant I made the first stroke. :):) The first three posts (Cartuneman and Magan and Sky) are marvelous introductions. I'm subscribing to this thread and hope it gets a lot of participation.

That's a great cat person. My first try in AR was my cat Molly.

This was my first pencil drawing in ArtRage from february 2011. It was made with the demoversion at that time to see if it could do the same as I would draw on real paper with a pencil, and it did !!! And I was instantly addicted....

This is the first drawing:

And this is how I make pencildrawings on real paper:

wow these are all cool it's amazing to see what we all started with and where we are today.

07-15-2011, 03:58 PM
Yes, great to see the beginnings. It would be fun if this thread gets legs with lots of posts. Maybe if you changed the thread name to "Post Your First AR Painting Ever Here" more people will see it has a participation thread and jump in. (??????????????):)

Yes, just go to your original post, select edit, and then change the title. That will change the title of the thread. :)

Peter - terrific - seeds that have sprouted so may remarkable paintings and styles from you over the years. And so far back, 2006, seems like centuries in some respect. Some of your posts must be among the first in the forums?

Felix & Vanity: like Peter, what cool beginnings. Let's hope many more people post. :)

Very cool stuff. It is great to see everyone's progress.

My second post was 08-05-2007 "Sailing by", top left. It would have been the first but I failed to attach it while learning how to post. This was my first attempt at digital painting and at using ArtRage.

I needed a avatar, On 09-08-2007 I posted "Budding Artist painted" I used a ArtRage tutorial and a Andrew Loomis fun with a pencil tutorial to draw the sketch I posted. I hadn't painted a figure before and I had so much doubt in my abilities that the thought of doing so was beating me up. Another board member told me she would like to see my sketch painted. I sucked it in, gave it a go and painted it for her. I thank her for moving me forward.

The last two are from some of my last posts. I tend to be a bit lazy about painting but they show improvement I have made from the encouragement of fellow ragers.

This is a great thread... I am with bryon my first work was just playing with the tools and settings. and layers... I have to admit to being a digital art junkie... I seem to try any new painting tool even though I have Painter and Photoshop.... AR is now my favorite.. did not even bother to upgrade to Painter 12... just too expensive.:p.. AR 3.5 Rocks!:D:D:D

I think this is my first one, with a demo, of AR 2.0 if I'm not wrong, that led me to by ArtRage. Curiously it was with chalk. No reference and only one layer available.
It was ago ... :o:p

My first painting.

Ehm, dear Cartuneman, ... concerning a possible new title:
"Incipit - My opera prima with ArtRage" or "ArtRage - How we all started" or "Gallery of our ArtRage warm-up" or "Our ArtRage Big Bang" or "Fiat Ars - ArtRage artists begin" or "ArtRage - Our stumbling first steps" or "Artrage ignition - The raise of creators" .... enough for now. If they don't fit I might look for a new bunch ... :D

07-19-2011, 12:24 PM
I haven't changed much. :) artrage version 2.0 I believe. Eb that is some impressive improvements.

07-19-2011, 12:37 PM
It's GREAT seeing everybody's early efforts. :):):):)

07-19-2011, 04:27 PM
A couple of skulls (I was on a skull kick at the time). There were some scribbles before this, but these were the first that were of anything.

This is great, I'm loving seeing what people did first once they got the package :)

four years of fun! :)

on July 31st 2007, I created my first couple of ArtRage "paintings", using my mouse :o:)

07-31-2011, 12:42 AM
Before i got into jazz art, i was doing southwest stuff. Here's the first ArtRage painting along with the physical acrylic painted from it.

This is my first AR with the free AR, first experience with digital and fell in love with it, this is done with mouse and knife, by the end of the day I purchased AR 3 pro and about 3 days after that I went out and bought my bamboo tablet and have not stopped painting since:D:D

07-31-2011, 01:11 AM

This was my first "expiriment" of using artrage...

08-08-2011, 11:26 AM
I can't recall if this was my very first image created in ArtRage but I do now it was one of the first (perhaps not the very first) I did create using ArtRage. I also remember using Painter IX.5 at the time for blending as I wasn't well versed in ArtRages palette knife (and to be honest still not but certainly more comfortable with...)....

So here is the Cab Driver....

This is becoming one of my favorite threads. There is something fascinating seeing these origins. :)

Such a good idea. Posting my first work makes me realize how little I improved my use of AR oils. As stated in the original post "After messing around for a while this is my first serious trial with the full version" (of AR 2).

08-19-2011, 04:48 PM
Just spotted this thread, though I'd post too.
This is the first image I took from start to finish in ArtRage on my iPad.
Great work everyone!

08-20-2011, 06:05 AM
Some really great 1st images here! I am so impressed!

Such a wonderful bunch of paintings!!

Here's one of my first ones in artrage 1.1 back in 2005 using the trace option to pick out the colours. These birds hang out in our backyard. I've put up the photos I used as well. This was a WIP and I never finished it :D
