I do as well Jack. I remember climbing these tiny steps and the ceiling so low and the steps winding upward of a castle ruin in Germany. It was exhilarating when I made it to the top and could see so far. Great painting.

Hi Jack,

The feeling is really moody in terms of sorta magical and dreamlike. Reminds me a lot of illustrators like NC Wyeth and Howard Pyle in their illustrations of pirates and so on. Very golden like a treasure chest of doubloons.

As to the mechanics of the piece, the ground with the shrubs look a little like you used a clone stamp to fill it in where you did some and extended it. It's the repetition of the bits that take on a geometric mechanical character.

One can still use the clone stamp but just take care to move the source around a bit more and look out for that patterning.

Other than that, I would keep your cutlass at the ready for creatures of all manner coming to protect their own in such a deathly stronghold.

Nice one. Great mood.

The background could really use some landscaping, as the POV seems to point more forward than up. But the marvelous job on lightning and texturing compensate that shortcoming.
