This forest is right beside the pastry where we keep our horses. I made this picture last autumn and tried to paint it with oilpaint and tried very hard to not go into details...as I usually do...
Feel free to comment on that because I like to learn to paint so that it does not look like a picture.

This is the painting

here are the two details of the painting...

Very nice Linda, I happen to like the detail that you put into your paintings although I suppose the drawback to that is that people would tend to look at them, thinking it might be a photograph, without a thought as to the many hrs that you have put into them.

VanityX - fantastic spot, and you have done a great rendering of it... excellent work!:):):):) I would love to walk down that lane...I can just smell the damp wet woods and see the bright sunlight in the distance...

Vanity

I never tire of Fall scenes. It is my only season. This one is unbelievable. I could not in any way pretend to comment on your work or provide guidance on your desire to be more abstract(?). I can say one thing. I wish I had your problem.

I have often said if I wanted such realism, I would take a picture of it. I do not say that of your works because, I think they are painted in passion not obsession.

GXH in my much appreciated comments to my questions regarding the painting Totem, and his unique style. You might like to read his comments. It appears he may have made the transition you seek. I particularly found interesting the influence of artists in the genre that influenced his style.

Terrific work. I really appreciate the details - it helps to see how wonderfully this is constructed.

This is so beautiful and reminds me of a Hockney painting which I have on DVD. Well done on all of it:)

Thanks to all of you !:D So if I understand correctly...I should not bend my mind too much on how to avoid too many details ?
I must confess I am always stunned how others can paint getting the same result with far less brushstrokes....

P.D. I have read the answers you got from GHX on the totem. I think that is a gift like GHX sees beyond the realistic shapes and figures and still express him self and the subject in the painting.
I love to look at that.
But I think my mind is still blocked ;) or just not capable to do that.....or see that... I truly think that real abstract painting is far beyond my reach.

Beautiful work.

And as a newcomer, I must say, I'll have a whole lot of posting to do if I should say how impressed I am by all the work submitted. So I'll start here, and please don't feel left out. I have watched many, and wow...

Thanks, and Frish....I have the same problem, I can spend so much time looking at all this beautifull art that these Ragers are making that if I would comment on all of them there is not much time left to draw or paint myself... But I sure look at all of them too ! And I am amazed every time, no mather what style....it is a terrific place to spend a lot of time.:D
